Takuma is the stereotypical Karate Teacher. He's just old enough to not be fighting all the time, but still young enough mix it up with anyone. He's extremely strick with his son (Robert) and his Daughter (Yuri) when it comes ot Kyokugenryu karate, perhaps too much so. My guess is he's constantly attempting to show the world that Kyokugenryu really is the strongest martial art, but he realizes that he's too old to be the one to do so... Anyway, Takuma stays active by running his dojo, and trying to keep his kids in line.
Oh, also notice that all his students have a Dragon Punch (Robert, Ryo, Yuri) although he does not. In fact I can't think of any other 'Karate Master' that doesn't have a Dragon Punch... Not that he needs one mind you, he's plenty tough as it is, just seems odd to me.
