The land of Trent Yes, yes, we've all heard this story a thousand times. The great evil rose up in the North, along with its army of minions. So the great Empire rallied all the troops from all the Kingdoms, and ventured forth in an epic battle of good versus evil. Yes, we all know this tale. We all know that on that day the world changed forever. The evil one was reborn, and with her coming, all the creatures of the night awoke. The good King Samuel was slain, along with all his forces, leaving the kingdoms defenseless against the incoming horde. Yes, those were dark times. But Grandpa! You haven't told us about the Elves yet! Hmph, I was getting to that. In order to tell a good story, you have to set your bearings first, in order to help your audience... Grandpaaaaaa! We know that part already. Get to the good part! Yes, yes, fine, the good part. Which part was that again? Oh yes, the Elves. Should I start with the Drow invasion? Or do you want me to just skip up to the part where the Elves sell their souls to the dark one? You know, Elves will deny that, of course. But they can't deny that the Drow kicked them out of the forest. I bet those Drow sure were surprised to see all their dead enemies stand back up! Hoot! ... Well, no more surprised than we were on the Night of Darkness I reckon. sigh. And now the forest is just like the rest of the planet. Controlled by the lifeless. You know, back in my day, you could actually walk from city to city. Completely safe! Ha! How about that! Camp outside if you wanted to. Ha! Roll around in the grass all day, without a care in the world... Yes grandpa, I know. What I wouldn't give to have seen that, if only a days. It sounds so beautiful. Not like this place at all. I'm sick of this stupid castle. It's crowded, there's never enough to eat, and it smells... It just makes me sick. *CLANG-Clang ClANG-Clang* (Both) What! Again? Well boy, we had best both get to the tower and see what's wandered too close to the walls tonight. Whatever it is, we had better hope it's alone. We're almost out of arrows again, and there's no wood to make any more. That group we sent out to the woods never came back... Hush boy, there's time to worry about them later. Help me unbar this door. The cold night wind buffeted both men around as they clambered through the door towards their post. Although cold, it was a welcome sensation, for they both knew that it might be the last thing they ever felt, on this cursed planet of Trent. 1. Core Ethos: Trent is a cross between survival and fantasy, where the heroes pit their skills against the limitless armies of undead controlling the countryside. 2. Heroes: The PCs! While there are several predefined 'leaders' in each of the cities, they are holding the undead to a standstill. It will be up to the PCs to turn the tide. 3. What do they do: The PCs? Well, whatever they want, but it'll likely involve running from or into undead monsters of all varieties. 4. Dangers: Have I mentioned the planet is ruled by armies of undead yet? 5. Magic: High level magic has been lost, but low level magic is prevalent, highly encouraged, and sought after. On Trent, it is possible to create temporary magic items, which last one year. These are extremely common, as they do not cost xp to make. Real, permanent magic items are legendary. 6. What's different: Unlike Ravenloft, there is no great evil lord plotting in the background. Nor is the planet sentient & actively trying to subvert the players. The overall tone of the game is somewhat simpler, and is actually very silly at times. (Not quite "Army of Darkness" silly, but certainly up there.) 7. Entrant: ptc075@yahoo.com
